Where Medical Science Meets Workplace Safety
SOEHPON leads the way with a holistic, science-driven approach—integrating training, consulting, coaching, and diagnostics—to deliver measurable results and safer, healthier work environments.
Since inception, we have been at the forefront of advocating for the health and safety of Nigerian workers through various enlightenment programmes, in-country capacity building among young practitioners, conferences, workplace surveys, and awareness campaigns.
The Society has played a vital role in shaping occupational health policy, including the following:
To bring together occupational and environmental health physicians with the aim of ensuring and managing a healthy work force in a safe working environment.
To produce a healthy workforce in a safe working environment by setting, promoting and protecting best standards of practice and training in occupational and environmental health in Nigeria.
Membership is open to fully registered medical practitioners, trained in Occupational and Environmental Medicine. Experienced registered medical practitioners who must have been in full-time practice of Occupational Medicine for a minimum of five years may be considered for full membership at the discretion of the National Executive Committee.
Fully registered Medical Practitioners, trained and have registrable qualification in the Occupational and Environmental Medicine or Health.
Fully registered Medical Practitioners. An Associate Member may attend and speak at general meetings of the Society but may not be eligible to vote or be voted for.
A corporate body that is actively supporting the aims and objectives of the Society may be elected as a corporate member and may send representatives to our functions.
Newly registered Medical Practitioners. An Associate Member may attend and speak at general meetings of the Society but may not be eligible to vote or be voted for.
SOEHPON has shaped Nigeria’s occupational health landscape through key projects, including advising the 9th National Assembly on OH policy and developing Oil & Gas Sector Guidelines (2016-2018). We partner with University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan for a 20+ year practitioner training program and collaborate with SOM UK, University of Ibadan, and THET on workforce upskilling. Globally, we engage with ICOH, ARAOH, IOMSC, and ACOEM to advance OH standards. Join us in building a safer, healthier workforce.
SOEHPON served as technical consultant to the 9th Nigerian National Parliament in crafting the National Occupational Health Policy.
Developed Guidelines for Occupational Health in Nigeria’s Oil & Gas Sector (2016-2018)
In collaboration with UCH Ibadan, SOEHPON runs a 2-week annual course for occupational health practitioners—serving as a cornerstone for workforce training.
In partnership with UI and SOM UK, and with support from THET, SOEHPON trained over 150 healthcare practitioners across Oyo State.
We are an active member of global occupational health bodies such as ARAOH, ICOH, IOMSC, and ACOEM, SOEHPON contributes to shaping global health discourse.
